We are seeking expressions of interest from artists to lead Sneinton Festival's street decoration project for the festival in July 2025. The theme of this community festival in Sneinton Nottingham is 'Dragons - local myths and legends'.
Job Description
Sneinton Festival is a well loved 41 year old community festival in the heart of Nottingham. This year we would love to commission an artist to lead the design of innovative celebratory street decorations, working with community groups to create some or all of the work or design.
We would like the main street in Sneinton (Sneinton Dale) to be decorated in some way that brings the festival to the street, lets Sneinton know and feel like the festival is happening - and get everyone ready for the parade! The decorations will be up for the week of the parade and potentially earlier - depending on the final designs.
Buses and large vehicles use Sneinton Dale so we can't decorate across the road in such a way that blocks traffic. The designs must of course be weather proof and designed in such a way to limit vandalism.
The festival has taken many forms over the years but more recently takes place over a week in July - culminating in a main festival day (this year on Saturday 12th July 2025). On the main day there is a community parade down Sneinton Dale, followed by music, stalls, art, dancing, family activities throughtout Sneinton in all the community spaces.
The theme for the festival this year is 'Dragons - local myths and legends'. Sneinton has it's own well loved dragon sculpture guarding one of the entrances to Sneinton - it is also home to a windmill and caves!
We would like the artist to work with a learning disabled adults group, an adults mental health group and possibly other groups in Sneinton.
We are unsure of the fee at this time but intend for there to be a fee for the artist plus funding for materials, and working with groups. We are seeking expressions of interest as part of the process of seeking funding - we may be able to work with an artist as part of this process too.
We are keen for the project to have environmental responsibility at the heart of it - for materials to be repurposed and waste limited.
